“If we can have a way to get [enforcement] up and operating, I see no reason why we can’t also have an agreement that shows how people who are not lawfully here can be able to be lawfully here – able to live here, work here, travel to and from their home country, be able to own a business, pay their taxes.” – Rep. Bob Goodlatte
I’ve lived long enough to watch a transformation of the Republican Party. I’m fairly young, yet over the last fifteen years, I’ve watched the latter part of a metamorphosis from conservative to liberal. However, for some time, many so-called moderate Republicans have attempted to disguise their liberal leanings. But now, it’s outright liberalism. The only difference is a little R next to their name.
The above quote from Rep. Goodlatte is telling. It specifically shows where the Republican Party has moved. Yes, that quote came from a Republican. In the last two elections, the Hispanic vote has gone overwhelmingly to the Democrats, and there are numerous possible reasons for that. One thing I know is that it’s not because of illegal immigration. Unfortunately, many Republicans are under the impression that if they imitate the Democrats, they can win. Rather, the reverse is true. It is because conservative principles were not properly articulated—or articulated at all—in the last two elections that Republicans lost.
Additionally, Goodlatte acts as if proper enforcement is possible under Democrat leadership. One only has to look back to the 1980’s to know that enforcement is the opposite of what the Democrats want. They want open borders. So, to dismiss secure borders as something easily achievable is ridiculous.
Finally, those who have come here illegally broke the law. It’s that simple. How is it that every other country—including Mexico, mind you—can enforce strict immigration rules, but the United States is mean if we do the same? The reason this inconsistency isn’t discussed is because it runs contrary to the open borders agenda of the Left. To simply wave off law-breaking is atrocious.
We don’t need to follow the Left into insanity in order to win. We cannot allow our representatives to screw us over like this. This is why primarying our representatives is a crucial part of the upcoming mid-terms. That’s why we have primaries, to correct mistakes. Goodlatte and his ilk don’t belong in the Republican Party.
